If you’re like me, the idea of being snowed in can send you into full-blown panic. And since Mother Nature is a bitch, she tends to schedule her snowpocalypses for weekends. If you’re Friday night date is in danger of falling victim, why not take a snow date instead?
Here are five indoor, romance-friendly date nights that range from sweet to sultry:
1. Binge watch childhood movies together. Raid the pantry, grab some blankets and settle in for some actual Netflix and chill.
Thanks to Netflix and Amazon Prime, it’s easier than ever to dig up your favorite childhood movies. The streaming services offer a veritable gold mine of Disney channel originals. It’s a bit cheesy, but spending some time getting to know your partner’s childhood quirks can bring you to a whole new level of intimacy. He’s probably not going to take Spy Kids as seriously these days, but he never has to know that you secretly dreamed Julie Andrews would show up at your door with a crown when you were ten.
It’s the perfect way to cuddle up and pass the time without having to shave your legs.
2. Go on a blind date. Grab a spot in front of the fridge and play the ultimate trust game.
If you haven’t stocked your fridge since the last big freeze or you went on a crazed New Year’s purge (hello, already forgotten resolution), then move along, sailor.
Skew your night toward silly or sensual by taking turns blindfolding and feeding each other. Things can get seriously sexy with the right foods: ice cream, chocolate, strawberries. Need to slow it down? He won’t be able to stay somber when your next offering is a giant, dill pickle.
3. Turn on the tap, drop in a lush bomb, and grab a favorite novel for a luxurious, private date.
It might be cold outside, but it won’t be in your bubble bath for two. It’s amazing how simple moments become romantic when you share them with your partner. Take turns rubbing each other’s feet while you read passages to one another.
For a romantic twist, grab that volume of Pablo Neruda you’re overly-sentimental, college boyfriend gave you and light some candles. Want less spa and more steam, share your favorite romance novel with him—or, at least, the good parts. Men get as turned on by erotic fiction as women, so don’t be shy!
4. Open up an ice bar and play bartenders for friends and neighbors.
Let’s face it. Some of us date better in a crowd. When you’re used to being the life of the party, being snowed in can seem like hell. You two probably aren’t the only ones. Call up your neighbors and invite them to the most exclusive bar in town.
Fee for entry? A few bottles of whatever they have stashed in the cupboard. By your powers combined, you’ll be doing bar tricks in no time. (On second thought, save the bar tricks for later. No one wants to brave the ER in a blizzard). The best part is that no one has to drive home.
5. Stay under the covers or on top of them. Or the table. Or the kitchen counter.
There was a time when there wasn’t anything else to do in the winter, but crawl into bed and huddle for warmth. Some things never change.
If you’ve been looking for a chance to reconnect, Mother Nature might have just given you the opportunity. Or maybe nothing sounds better than an entire day of no-holds barred undercover action. To prevent cabin fever from setting in, try something or somewhere new. You’d be surprised how perfect the height of a dining room table is for shagging. Want to change things up even more? Take a look around for multi-tasking every day items. Christian Grey was made famous by a tie, after all.
